When I was in my senior year of college, studying Environmental Science, I stumbled upon Introduction to Permaculture by Bill Mollison. A quick flip through the book at its engaging diagrams and I could feel my stomach flip with excitement!
I knew in my deepest being that this was the answer to the question burning in my mind at the time... how can we do things differently? How can humans meet our needs without degrading the earth?
27 years later, I can say safely say that this has been the most influential book of my life. It set me on a path of seeing the world in a completely different way. Permaculture gave me the tools to design a life that is aligned with life and beauty.
I have used Permaculture to design my business, homeschooling, my daily life, every project, workshop, or talks I've done, as well as my gardens. Once you learn the tools and practice them, they become second nature.
This is why I absolutely love teaching Permaculture to my students. Yes it can help them grow amazing gardens filled with food, fiber, medicine, and beauty... but really what I'm teaching is so much more than that. It is how to transform our own lives, our communities, and the world.
It's not a quick fix. You can't learn this in a book or a weekend workshop. It takes consistent learning and practice over time. It takes action... putting you hands in the soil and trying things out. Small changes over time taken with the support of community.
If you are curious about Permaculture and how you can apply it in your garden, this is the time to join the Garden Revolution Course. I will guide you through the permaculture design cycle, helping you to develop a design for your site that is specific for you. We will cover annual garden beds, forest gardens, and integrating animals with your gardens. Then over the next year I will help you implement your plan.
This course applies whether you are starting out fresh, without a garden, or if you already have a garden and want to make it easier and more abundant. You can use this information for a huge farm or a tiny garden.
It doesn't matter if you have been gardening for 40 years or have never been able to keep houseplants alive. Pretty soon people are going to be calling you the plant whisperer and asking for your gardening advice!
